I have tried to try it but 'webrepl_setup' doesn't work with my own MicroPython port (can't figure out why not) and, while it works with stock MicroPython, I can't figure out how to then access it. If I hit the 'connect' button on 'webrepl.html' or use the on-line version I simply get "disconnected" reported in the text field. It works pretty well and has been a standard part of MicroPython for years. You should try it.You can achieve what you want but I would suggest 'wireless REPL' is the wrong approach.
But my view is that Pico W networking is flaky enough as it is that you don't want to be adding anything which could be making it flakier still. I suppose one could have it that 'webrepl' is only activated after being requested rather than on boot.
It would be nice to get it working but, as I don't particularly need it working, I have never put in much effort to get it working.
