I come to the same conclusion as jojopi.
For cases like this, others can check as well if you also would have posted checksum/fingerprint (we can't see what is on your SD-cards):

Code:

root@debianarm64:~# apt policy fswebcamfswebcam: Installed: 20140113-2 Candidate: 20140113-2 Version table: *** 20140113-2 500 500 http://deb.debian.org/debian bookworm/main arm64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/statusroot@debianarm64:~# sha256sum /usr/bin/fswebcamab01a15d62fcc989ca6a057d0518105e2e5aee94546ec3fced182a2571c4c17c /usr/bin/fswebcamroot@raspbian:~# apt policy fswebcamfswebcam: Installed: 20140113-2 Candidate: 20140113-2 Version table: *** 20140113-2 500 500 http://raspbian.raspberrypi.com/raspbian bookworm/main armhf Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/statusroot@raspbian:~# sha256sum /usr/bin/fswebcam3b88e168a74b3aa5dd3d76be2fa358ae34ac45b4fc7ce5bc0ec0583baf3ad709 /usr/bin/fswebcam
As I indicated earlier, a way to prevent such issues is find a better balance between 'keep it running in a corner until HW fails' and 'monthly updates or so' where the distro/'computers' do the work for you. Meaning you don't have to compile stuff yourself and/or add external repos to 'sources.list'.

I am not advising you to run another distro on your Pi4B, but it seems you do not use Pi proprietary HW, so it would be possible. Because I might go back from rpicam-still to fswebcam, I did some check:

Code:

root@testing:~# apt policy fswebcamfswebcam: Installed: (none) Candidate: 20140113-2+b1 Version table: 20140113-2+b1 500 500 http://deb.debian.org/debian testing/main arm64 Packages # zypper info fswebcamLoading repository data...Reading installed packages...Information for package fswebcam:---------------------------------Repository : openSUSE-Tumbleweed-OssName : fswebcamVersion : 20200725-1.14Arch : aarch64Vendor : openSUSEInstalled Size : 164.5 KiBInstalled : NoStatus : not installedSource package : fswebcam-20200725-1.14.srcUpstream URL : https://www.sanslogic.co.uk/fswebcam/Summary : Tiny and flexible webcam programDescription : Tiny and flexible webcam program for capturing images from a V4L1/V4L2 device, and overlaying a caption or image.
